Samrat, established in 1980 in the busiest part of Shinjuku, is an ethnic restaurant with a wide selection of beers from all over the world. Out of the east exit of the Shinjuku station, take diagonal right to get to the building full of popular restaurants. You can find the restaurant with a mere three-minute walk from the station, a great location especially for tourists. The luxurious interior of the restaurant reminds you of Indian palaces and the smell of the spice stir up your appetite as you walk in.

Not only does the restaurant have the halal certificate, their friendly staff are happy to explain when you want to order the halal food. All the spices are carefully selected by their Indian chef and directly shipped from India, making Samrat stand out from other franchise restaurants.

Skillfully baked naan

You can enjoy the tasty naan freshly baked in the tandoor by a skilled chef. The tandoor refers to a variety of clay ovens in the cylindrical shape, which enables a shorter cooking time as the far infra-red of charcoal can heat the inside of meat and fish quickly. While naans are becoming common in Japan, they are hardly Indian home cuisines as regular houses in India are not equipped with the tandoor. For people in India, the naan is like the tandoori chicken – it goes well with the curry but is something you have only in the restaurant.

Spice, tandoori food, vegetables, and more

ディナースペシャルタリーセット(ノンベジタリアン)

The photo shows the Dinner Special Thali Set (non vegetarian), served at 2,880 yen, and it is a platter with two kinds of curry (Butter Chicken and Prawn Saag), tandoori chicken, seekh kebab, salad, naan, and rice. The set is the second most popular menu after the all-you-can-eat buffet, which comes with five types of curry, two types of naan, and rice at 1,980 yen. This does not include the tandoori chicken, but the salad uses vegetables specially delivered from their contracted farmers.

Many vegetarian plates

パパドゥ

In addition to various salad dishes that uses seasonal vegetables, there are other plates that vegetarians can also enjoy, such as Papad, grilled mushrooms and Som Tum. There is a private room that can fit up to 30 people as well as semi-private rooms for small groups. If you are planning to have a party in a large group, it is recommended you make a reservation one week in advance.
